  Srinagar. Nov 18: A joint meeting of hurriyat executive and general council was today convened by APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at Srinagar. All the members and the heads of hurriyat constituents were present in the meeting.chairman peoples league Mukhtar Ahmad was was not present in meeting and public affairs division hakeem ab rashi , imtiyaz reshi ,ab Rashid unto and yaseen Hassan malik was also not present in meeting they were produced before baramullah court by police for absulte bail.

During the meeting, the participants discussed the ongoing political situation. They also took view of the recently concluded visit of high level APHC delegation to New Delhi where the hurriyat leaders met Pakistan Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Advisor Sartaj Aziz.

The meeting once again stressed that elections were no substitute to self Determination, adding, such an exercise would have no bearing on the legal and historical status of the disputed Kashmir region. The participants said that Kashmir was an UN recognized international dispute and therefore its solution lies either by implementing the pending UN resolutions or through meaningful result-oriented tripartite dialogue between India, Pakistan, and Kashmiris.

The participants agreed that without solving Kashmir issue, peace would not return in south Asia, political uncertainty would continue to plague the region, and progress and prosperity in the region would remain a unfulfilled dream. Hence, they said it was important to hammer out a dignified solution of Kashmir issue according to the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiri people.

The APHC felt that there is also a human dimension to the Kashmir dispute which should not be ignored at any cost. It said that due to uncertain situation, families and people were divided by man -made hurdles. They said keeping such things under consideration, a just solution to the dispute would be in the wider interest of the region. In this regard, the participants said they have forwarded suggestions to Government of India which have not been implemented till date.

Expressing concern over the worsening human rights situation in Kashmir, the participants decided that hurriyat would observe a Human rights week from Dec 5 and would conclude them on Dec 10- the International day for Human Rights. They said during the HR week, hurriyat would conduct seminars and programmes  apprising people and world about the  HR violations committed by Indian troops in Kashmir.

Detailing out the venues of the HR week, they said 1st seminar would be held in Kupwara on Dec 05, second on Dec 06 in Islamabad, 08 December at hurriyat headquarters Rajbagh, on 09 december  hurriyat would organise a photo exhibition and a documentary  film  highlighting HR violations in Kashmir.On Dec 10, Entire Hurriyat leadership would stage a peaceful Sitin (dharna) in Srinagar to protest HR violations. During these programmes  the Hurriyat  would raise the issue of AFSPA, enforced disappearences, unmarked graves tortures etc to apprise the world about the Human Rights violations in Kashmir.
