Farooq, Monday convened an important meeting of Hurriyat Executive council
members at party headquarters, Rajbagh. The meeting was attended by Executive
Members of hurriyat including Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza and others
Terming the improving of relations between India and Pakistan as welcome beginning, the participants hoped that both the countries would now consider Kashmir dispute as a core issue and would take steps to solve it keeping in view the historical and present ground realities. The participants said the lasting peace in the sub-continent was only possible, if Kashmir issue is solved according to the wishes and aspirations of people.
The participants resolved the stability and prosperity in the sub continent would come only when Kashmir issue is solved, adding, increasing trade and routes of transport would be of no help in longer terms.
The participants said the Hurriyat has always maintained a policy of unity within the pro-freedom ranks to assertively for the rights of people. They said Hurriyat would always be ready and extending all helps which would involve unity of pro freedom camp.
The meeting also took stock of the different cells of Hurriyat and pointed out many areas where it needed to speed up activities to penetrate deeper on ground level.
