According to the spokesperson of of jkpl Imtiyaz Reshi said Chief patron of peoples league Sheikh Mohd Yaqoob has  appealed people to observe complete strike on the
eve of Indian Prime minister Manmohan Singh visit to Kashmir on June
25. He said the Kashmiris were forced to observe shutdown and protests
since India was not starting any political process to address the K
issue and instead was looking at it through the prism of a just simple
economic issue.
He said if Indian Prime Minister comes to Kashmir with a constructive
thinking over the suggestions put forth by the APHC in connection with
the resolution of K issue, then this visit undertaken by him can prove
to be beneficial. However, he said that it was highly unfortunate that
India has never considered the ground realities persisting in Jammu
and Kashmir and treated this issue as a simple problem of economics.
He said the sensitivity and reality of Kashmir issue can’t be changed
by granting economic grants and bringing in rails. He stressed that
Kashmir issue would remain there till the pledges made by the Indian
authorities are not fulfilled.
Yaqoob said that any solution to Kashmir can be found through
trilateral negotiations between India Pakistan and Kashmiris.
Yaqoob said the main aim of the  party was to become the voice of the people and fight for the birth  right of Kashmiris- right to self determination. Since then, he said  party is fighting for the rights of people and would continue to do so  till it reaches it logical conclusion.
He said that it was the prime stand of the party that Kashmir issue should be either solved through UN resolution, or through tri-lateral negotiations involving India, Pakistan and genuine leadership of Kashmiris.
Stressing that Kashmir issue was forcing both the countries to spend billions of dollars on defence budget at the cost of poor people, he said Kashmir issue was not an economic problem.
He said economic packages and grants cann’t change the nature of Kashmir dispute.
PL hoped that Indian Prime Minister would respond positively to the proposals of his Pakistani counterpart for resolving the vexed Kashmir dispute and restoration of friendship between the two countries . Yaqoob said that former Indian Prime Minister, Nehru’s words were still ringing and echoing when he said, “We had given our pledge to the people of Kashmir and subsequently to the United Nations; we stood by it and we stand by it today. Let the people of Kashmir decide.”. He pointed out that it was the responsibility of India to honour the commitments made by its leaders before the UN to settle the dispute in accordance with the Kashmiris aspirations.
